ABOUT

The Lyra Quartet is a Montreal-based string quartet formed in 2023 at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music. Praised as “both rigorous and profoundly human,” their performances draw in audiences with an emotional depth and a cohesion that feels like they are “breathing from the same breath” (Pan M 360).
The quartet embraces chamber music as storytelling, creating opportunities to connect deeply with audiences. Finalists of the 2024 McGill Chamber Music Competition, they perform regularly in Montreal, including appearances in the Schulich in the Neighborhood community concert series. With a passion for exploring works both within and beyond the classical canon, Lyra has collaborated with pianists Piotr Kozłowski and Jeanette Fang on repertoire ranging from Brahms to Zwilich.
Mentored by Marina Thibeault and André Roy, the quartet has participated in masterclasses with the Parker Quartet, Sharon Wei, Phillip Ying, and Yvonne Lam. In the summer of 2024, Lyra held the Emerging Artist Fellowship at the Garth Newel Music Center in Virginia and also received a full scholarship to the Tuckamore Music Festival in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Upcoming projects include partnering with Saphonix Collective to premiere Sapphic Passion, a newly commissioned work for organ, three choirs, four vocal soloists, and string quartet.
